Ed Smethurst

Ed works within the catastrophic injury and large loss team, handling a caseload of multi-track claims valued at up to £750,000, both PI and non-PI. Ed started his career as a claimant lawyer before joining Clyde & Co [then BLM] in 2012. His formative years spent in the volume motor team developed his commercial awareness and the importance of customer experience, claims cycles and managing indemnity spend. 

His caseload consists of claims relating to orthopaedic injuries, chronic pain, fatal accidents and subtle TBI’s. He also spends a large proportion of his time providing high-level assistance and input with all aspects of catastrophic injury cases valued well in excess of £1 million; such as amputation, chronic pain and severe TBI claims for both adults and minors. He is experienced in handling liability investigations, advising on complex indemnity issues and dealing with all types of quantum issues ranging from care to credit hire. He has experience of advocating at CCMC’s and application hearings, dealing with difficult litigants in person, contributing at JSM’s and pathways/way forward meetings and attending/reporting on inquests, trials and appeals when required.

Ed has provided training to clients on topics including motor liability, Part 36 offers and pre-litigation tactics.
