Tom's practice focuses principally on commercial litigation and professional liability disputes arising in the property, construction and IT sectors.

He has experience of handling a wide range of solicitors’ liability disputes for a variety of firms, large and small, and their insurers arising out of real estate transactions and the drafting of property documents, among other things.

Tom advises a number of the country’s largest firms of property professionals on risk management and professional liability issues, including in particular advising on high value property valuation claims. Tom also has a growing practice in the IT sector, where he advises IT consultants and their insurers on errors and omissions disputes.

In addition, Tom handles a range of disputes outside the insurance sectors including matters relating to commercial or high value residential real estate, financial service disputes and regulatory matters, shareholder disputes and partnership disputes.

Tom also co-authored the Pre-Action Protocol for Professional Negligence.

  • Advising a leading multinational firm of surveyors on an 9-figure claim for damages in respect of the alleged overvaluation of a large, high value portfolio of commercial properties.
  • Advising entities owned by a Middle Eastern government on allegations of and investigations into potential large-scale money laundering.
  • Acting for a FTSE 250 client on more than 24,000 claims in respect of the management and maintenance of a large portfolio of office premises.
  • Advising on judicial review claims and statutory appeals against a statutory body in the pensions sector.
  • Advising IT consultants and their insurers on allegations of defective software installations in the health sector.
  • Representing a leading construction firm in the defence of a claims in relation to alleged defects at a major distribution center in Hatfield and on a hospital project in the north west of England.
  • Advising a large firm of solicitors on a multi-million pound claim relating to the development of a hotel site in the West Country.
  • Advising solicitors and their insurers on a range of claims arising out of unsuccessful leasehold enfranchisement applications.
