Aside from shipping, he has experience in off-shore energy, international trade and insurance. Brian's principal clients include major oil companies, charterers, commodity traders and insurers worldwide.

After spending over 20 years based in the firm's Guildford office, including serving four years on the firm's elected Management Board and five years as joint head of shipping, Brian relocated in November 2005 to the rapidly expanding Middle East regional office in Dubai as head of dispute resolution. He then relocated to Singapore in February 2012 to the role of managing partner. Brian was the managing partner of Clyde & Co Clasis Singapore, and a member of the firm's Asia Pacific Regional Board, for four years. Brian is now based in the UK. 

As well as litigation in the Commercial Court, Brian has considerable experience of multi-jurisdictional proceedings, arbitrations under LMAA, LCIA and ICC rules, and ADR, particularly mediation.

  • Shipping - A wealth of experience including major marine casualties and related pollution issues, all forms of time and voyage charterparty disputes, cargo recovery claims and their defence, ship construction and repair disputes, and advice on and drafting shipping related contracts
  • International trade - Advising on a broad range of contractual disputes including rights of termination/rejection under sale contracts, quality and quantity disputes, including certificate final clauses, late nominations, demurrage liabilities, recovery of cargoes, lien and stoppage in transit, and related banking disputes under documentary credits
  • Off-shore energy - Wide experience ranging from allision damage to off-shore installations, sub-sea pipeline damage, and construction repair and conversion disputes, to advice on a variety of contractual issues involving operators and contractors, including termination rights, delay claims and indemnity provisions
  • Insurance - Experienced in marine cargo, hull and liability policy disputes, advice and wordings
