Susana is a partner in the Madrid office with over 20 years´ experience in the insurance sector.  

Her practice focuses on advice, coverage dispute and defence work in complex matters across multiple jurisdictions within EMEA and Latin America for leading insurers and reinsurers as well as insurance and reinsurance intermediaries, with a particular focus in financial lines.  

Her expertise includes advice and litigation in respect of all types of financial lines products and claims i.e., professional liability, Directors and Officers liability insurance, Employment practice insurance, financial institutions’ insurance, including Bankers Professional Liability (BLP) and Bankers Blanket Bonds (BBB), PI construction, Surety and Credit Insurance and Tech PI.

Susana has been involved in some of the major cases notified under D&O policies, such as diesel emission related cases, subprime crisis and Madoff related cases, car wash operation (“Lava Jato”) notifications, major environmental accidents and subsequent notifications under D&O policies, as well as cartel allegations, criminal proceedings in Spain and bond related issues.

As for crime policies she has advised matters regarding infidelity of employees, direct damages issues and FIC clauses. During her professional career she has also been involved in construction PI cases with major construction companies (SPPI and multiple notifications regarding different projects). She has also participated in the assessment of claims notified under Financial Institutions policies (manipulation of exchange rates, criminal proceedings and exposure to bonds, Madoff and subprime crisis notifications, and CUMEX transactions amongst others).

She has also advised insurance and reinsurance companies on corporate and regulatory matters as well as insurance policy wording drafting, including localisation to market according to legal framework and best local practices.

Susana´ area of expertise also includes cyber and all types of notifications under Cyber and Tech PI policies including Ransomware attacks, social engineering cases and their subsequent notification under Cyber and Crime policies, class action resulting from data breaches and their notification under the third-party liability section of a Cyber policy, insurability of fines, application of the “contractual exclusion”, coverage in case of interruption of services. She has also been involved in Tech PI claims and issues relating therein: TCPA notifications, IT outage. Participation in TMT case, including media defamation cases. She has also participated in wording improvement and review of K&R policies, Cyber and TMT policies.

Susana is bilingual in Spanish (native), English and French (High School at the Madrid Lycée Français and “Baccalauréat”)
