Full Profile

Much of his time recently has been taken up in advising clients on changes to their DB schemes including closing them to future accrual and changing benefit structures. He has had experience of introducing DC and CARE sections to existing DB schemes including updating trust deeds and rules.

He has particular expertise in drafting scheme documentation and in recent years has gained valuable experience of updating governing documentation to take account of legislative changes including the Finance Act 2004, Pensions Act 2004 and age discrimination regulations both in new consolidated deeds and free-standing deeds.

Paul also has substantial experience of advising on compliance matters, dispute resolution (including defending Pensions Ombudsman and TPAS claims) and pension scheme mergers and demergers, as well as the pensions aspects of corporate transactions (including advising on section 75 debts and Beckmann issues) as well as cross-border issues for UK and foreign pension schemes.

He has a broad range of experience of investment and custody matters. He recently advised a fiduciary manager setting up a fiduciary management business for UK pension funds including drafting the contract between the manager and trustees.

He is a full member of the Association of Pension Lawyers.
