Callum is an Associate in the Marine and International Trade team and joined Clyde & Co in 2016 in our UK offices, before relocating to Singapore in 2022.  Callum specialises in advising international marine insurers on resolution of disputes arising out of the international carriage of goods by sea and marine casualties. 

Callum has extensive experience in cargo and marine insurance recoveries and is regularly instructed by marine insurers to pursue recovery of marine cargo losses in multiple jurisdictions, as well as to defend claims in General Average and salvage, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region.

Callum has also previously worked in the marine team in our Hong Kong office.

Callum is a solicitor qualified in England and Wales and a registered foreign lawyer in Singapore.

Experience
  • "MOL COMFORT" – Advising and handling recovery for multiple cargo insurers on the total loss of USD 300 million of cargo after the vessel "MOL COMFORT" broke in two, caught fire and sank in two sections, losing all 4,382 containers on board. This is the largest container vessel ever to be lost.
  • Volcafe Ltd v CSAV [2018] UKSC 61 – Represented the successful cargo interests in a landmark decision of the UK Supreme Court in relation to the burden of proof in cargo damage claims under the Hague Rules.
  • Acting for multiple cargo insurers in various matters in defence of General Average and salvage claims following fires on board and the grounding of containerships.
  • Acting for hull insurers and cargo insurers in various matters involving vessel collisions and successfully pursuing recovery of marine insurance losses.
