Nils is a Legal Director in the Dubai office. He is an international arbitration lawyer and commercial litigator with extensive experience in complex domestic and international disputes.

Full Profile

Nils advises clients on major and complex contractual and tortious matters arising across a range of sectors with particular expertise on shareholder / JV, distribution / franchise, property development and finance disputes.

His experience includes representing clients at every stage of dispute resolution proceedings including in the DIFC Courts, UAE Courts, English Courts, arbitration (including under the LCIA, DIFC-LCIA, ICC, DIAC, BVI IAC and SCMA rules), negotiation and mediation.

Prior to relocating to Dubai and joining Clyde & Co, Nils served as an associate at the London office of a specialist disputes firm, handling high stakes litigation and arbitration, particularly regarding Russian and CIS related disputes.

Experience
  • Defending a private equity firm on a high profile misappropriation of profits claim in excess of US$ 200 million before the English Courts.
  • Advising a group of investors on potential claims in excess of US$65 million against their financial advisors with respect to alleged omissions and misleading statements in information memoranda.
  • Representing a metallurgic group in various LCIA arbitrations concerning joint venture and financing arrangements for the construction and operation of a copper mine.
  • Advising a subsidiary of a global technology operator on a dispute concerning the termination of energy contracts in the Levant.
  • Acting for multinational blue chip companies in commercial agency, distribution and franchise disputes in the UAE and other GCC countries.
  • Acting for various UAE investors and property developers in high value DIAC property arbitrations.
  • Representing an affiliate of a large business group based in the Middle East in ICC arbitration proceedings relating to the purported termination and breaches of a distribution agreement.
  • Representing a major regional electronics retailer in DIFC-LCIA arbitration proceedings for recovery of monies under sales and supply agreements with a global electronics manufacturer.
  • Advising a global education group on available protections under relevant investment treaties.
