Jason is a Partner in the Casualty group with particular focus upon latent disease and legacy solutions. He undertakes employers' liability, environmental, industrial disease, disciplinary and regulatory work for major multinational corporates, insureds and professionals.

Jason has undertaken large loss, disease and regulatory work for the best part of 25 years. Throughout his career Jason has covered the widest range of disease claims including hand arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), noise induced hearing loss, all aspects of musculoskeletal injury, catastrophic injury (including partial and full loss of sight), chemical exposure, bladder cancer, MRSI, chronic regional pain syndrome and also stress and harassment.

He specialises in disease claims (with a particular focus on Group and Lead actions), but also has a strong track record in handling disciplinary and regulatory matters. Such issues have incorporated a detailed knowledge of psychiatric assessment, substance and solvent addiction, medical rehabilitation, and the attendant statutory and advisory body guidance. Jason is a member of FOIL and engages in industry debate. He has also been consulted by the DTI in relation to HAVS group actions and schemes. In addition he has been required to advise the IRM and also leading multinational corporates.

He has undertaken work for the majority of composite and Lloyds market insurers (including Aviva, NFU Mutual, QBE, RSA, XL and Mitsui) as well as a very wide range of SME’s and, more regularly, global multinationals and FTSE 100 companies.

Jason has ranked as a lead individual in Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500 and has written regular articles for insurance publications such as Insurance Times, Post magazine and industry journals. In addition, he has led seminars and presented keynote speeches to insurers and corporate groups and also industry forums.

Experience
  • Advising insurers in a highly sensitive sexual assault and stress/harassment claim involving a leading Director of an international (but UK domiciled) corporation
  • Successfully coordinated a set of WRULD lead actions worth in excess of GBP 6m
  • Achieving  a successful conclusion of a group of musculoskeletal disorder claims within the gaming industry where there had been potential for approximately 10,000 follow-on claims
  • Defending a highly contentious and valuable misfeasance in public office case (with government department involvement)
  • Acting for a global manufacturer on a successful Court of Appeal case which set out lead judicial guidance on disease-related limitation and foreseeability issues
  • Advising insurers in the claim of an engineer with severe burns(over 80%) and brain and internal organ damage
  • Key cases include Heyes-v-Pilkington Glass Ltd (C of A), SA Spence-v-J.Davies Interiors Ltd., Griggs-v-Transco plc (C of A), N.Abotanerra-v- FLS Industries Ltd. (Cof A), Hitch & ors.-v- National Grid plc (WRULD lead actions) and M.Bury & ors. –v- National Grid plc(repetitive trauma lead actions)
