Our Being a Regional MEA Employer series addresses the employment framework, legislative changes and challenges impacting employers and employees across a variety of jurisdictions. Our first episode focuses on Kenya, an economic hub in the East African region.

In the last decade, Kenya has seen several significant economic and political reforms that have contributed to its sustained socio-economic growth and development, including the passing of a new constitution in 2010, which saw an expansion in the legal protection of various rights. Kenya’s economy is expected to rapidly grow, spurred by the increased expenditure on infrastructure in the country. The country has seen more activities from international and national firms interested in the sector to explore opportunities in the road and railway construction sectors.

In this episode, Senior Associate Amy Guest invites Partner, Mellap Wataka to discuss the dynamic employment space in Kenya and seek to answer the following questions:

  1. From an employer’s perspective what are the key things an employer needs to know?
  2. What are the opportunities for businesses? Where do you see a lot of activity taking place?
  3. Is the employment framework employer friendly or employee friendly?
  4. What’s on the horizon in the coming months?

During this episode, employers and businesses will gain an understanding of the employment framework and a market update in Kenya.
