Insurance 2021 - the year ahead
Generally, epidemics/pandemics are excluded from coverage in insurance policies.
However, in Kenya, insurers do cover Covid-19 under the Work Injuries Benefits Act, 2007 as an occupational disease.
Given that vaccines will be approved that will transform exposures, it is possible that health insurers will be able to extend the Covid-19 cover available by developing products that will protect individuals who contract the virus outside the workplace, or indeed for the general public.
We also foresee the inclusion of Covid-19 under local/international travel insurance covers.
